5 minutes with Lavina,co-founder of Beulah✨

MW MEETS….. BEULAH ✨As it’s international women’s week it’s only right we shine focus on the female-led womenswear label, that is made for empowering strong women.  Founders Natasha and Lavinia’s timeless feminine fashion label empowers vulnerable and trafficked women through providing employment opportunities. Their ultimate vision is to  see a  world where slavery no longer exists by using fashion as a force for good.

– How would you describe the Beulah women?

She is self-assured, imaginative, beautiful, honest, direct, uplifting, active, dignified but fearless.

– How important is sustainability to Beulah?

Very. Our goal is to build a responsible, transparent fashion brand that empowers vulnerable women and protects human rights whilst minimising our impact on the environment. We think of our sustainability strategy in three pillars; Prosperity, People and Planet.

Prosperity – This is about maximising the reach and positive impact on vulnerable or trafficked women by providing meaningful and scalable employment opportunities through our supply chain.

People – This is about building transparency into our supply chain to ensure fair and safe working conditions for all workers producing our materials and garments.

Planet – This is about how we as a brand minimise our impact on the environment by adopting a regenerative business model with particular focus on raw material production practices.

– We often see Kate Middleton wearing your beautiful designs, can you remember the first time she wore Beulah and have you ever met the Duchess herself?

The Duchess of Cambridge first wore a piece from our first ever collection – it was a long red silk jersey gown which she looked beautiful in. At the time we only had one in stock and a non-functioning transactional website (that sounds crazy in this modern world but it was 10 years ago!) – it was a huge learning curb.

– Do you have a spirit animal, if so what is it?

Hmmm, a tough one. I guess mine would be a horse – this past year we have learnt some very tough lessons and it has required much physical and inner strength.

– What is your favourite item from the Beulah collection on MWHQ?

Also a tough question. It would be our Rashmi dress or Laxmi jumpsuit.

– What are you most looking forward to doing when life returns to normal?

Travelling. I miss travelling so much, particularly to India which now feels like a second home and where we go to be inspired by the incredible people, colours and architecture.

– What can we expect from Beulah this season?

This season borrows from oriental influences and Indian heritage, taking inspiration from the vibrant tones, prints and textures. We drew graphic and colour references from the work of Anni Albers and Pierre Bonnard to create a palette which is warm, mellow and uplifting, with coconut creams, rose reds and soft  corals. Sandwashed silks and organic cotton broderies compliment the textured crepes and woven checks in a collection filled with depth and richness. Signature feminine silhouettes have been reinvented and sit back amongst more casual, soft  tailoring and relaxed, everyday wear.
